About Us
The Welsh Thoracic Society is a not-for-profit organisation concerned with the respiratory health of patients within Wales.
Our membership comprises health professionals with a special interest in respiratory disease including physicians, nurses and physiotherapists. Our primary aim is to improve the health of our patients by promoting good clinical practice, encouraging research into all aspects of respiratory disease, and by providing a platform for sharing of ideas, debate, discussion and education.
On our pages you will find details of our bi-annual meetings, current research within Wales, and scheduled educational events. We hope this will be of interest to those either currently working in respiratory medicine within Wales, or those health professionals (particularly trainees in respiratory medicine) considering a career here. This website is not primarily designed to provide information for patients with respiratory disease, but access is open to all.

Welcome to the WTS website. This is now the second year of my 2-year Presidency which has seen some great changes within Respiratory Medicine in Wales...
In fulfilling our aim to improve the health of our patients by promoting good clinical practice it has been my pleasure to represent the WTS through our affiliation and membership of the Respiratory Health Implementation Group and Respiratory Alliance Wales, in providing guidance to Welsh Government and the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee. In promoting Teaching, Training, Education and Research we have had great feedback from our Autumn Meetings and especially our recent Joint Spring Meeting with the Cardiff Chest Federation in March 2019.
We were able to co-ordinate our meeting with the SpR training week and also trialled a new format of simultaneous workshop sessions aimed at all Multidisciplinary Healthcare Professionals that make up our membership. Our meetings provide an excellent platform to present Respiratory Research and we look forward to working closely with Respiratory Innovation Wales in further promoting Respiratory Research in Wales. I would encourage all those working in Respiratory Health to join our Society to provide a voice for the diverse community that serves our Respiratory patients in Wales.
